In her book America the Beautiful?, Blythe Roberson writes:
… and I sat at my desk ignoring my work to read “Moments,” about actually living your life when you’re alive, about how the lamest thing you can possibly do is be cautious.
I’m not bad at dealing with uncertainty, which I think connects with being cautious, but nobody is perfect. I’ll add that caution is not the only enemy of living your life: distraction would be another. We often get caught up in our mundane routines and forget about things that excite us, that we want to experience, or that we want to achieve. I know that it happens to me, at times.
Based on this, a formula for living your life might be being awake and bold. Awake so you can identify what you want and what will fulfill you. Bold so you get past the thoughts telling you that trying is dangerous, that you aren’t enough, or that, for whatever reason, it’s impossible.
I wish it were that simple, but there are more limiting factors to living your life, and my formula can only be seen as a partial approximation. Still worth the time I spent thinking about it. Partial is better than nothing, isn’t it?
