How to Deal with Uncertainty
My early morning internet wandering randomly led me to 30 questions for me and for you. The author, whom I don’t know, asks the reader to email them an answer to at least one of the 30 questions they pose. I thought it was a fun challenge, skimmed the 30 questions, and chose this one: How to deal with uncertainty? Here is what I emailed them about it:
Life is a succession of uncertainties. They’re just part of it, and the way to deal with them may be to accept that they’re there and try to approach them rationally. Whenever an uncertainty becomes certain, other uncertainties will always be waiting in line (often, they will juxtapose).
I’ll be honest: I embrace uncertainty. I’ve frequently put myself in uncertain situations, and for the most part, I believe it’s when I have grown more as a person.
Other times, uncertainty is not chosen and can easily lead to anxiety. When that happens, ask yourself: What is the worst thing that can happen in this situation? The answer to that question often reveals that there is little reason to be too anxious. I’m not immune to uncertainty-induced anxiety, but this has helped me sometimes.
