Alien or Noncitizen

I learned in the local newspaper that the State of Oregon would no longer call me an alien but a noncitizen (Senate Bill 1560). According to the US Supreme Court, this terminology change is recommended and [consistent] with our character as a Nation of opportunity and of welcome.

I’ll admit that I find the idea of myself being an alien funny and even cool that my USCIS ID is called the alien registration number. But I am on the privileged side of immigration, and the intent is to make things a little less hard for those who have it more difficult, so I welcome the change. I also wish other initiatives to improve in practice the living conditions of many that are suffering will come.
