I was surprised to see a security robot standing next to the front door outside the Portland hotel I stayed in this weekend.
I have always been curious about these sorts of tech things, so I did some superficial research and discovered its name is K5 Autonomous Security Robot (K5 ASR, for short).
The K5 in my hotel stayed stationary all weekend, so I couldn’t see any patrolling activities. I’ll admit part of me wanted to see it move, but I’m actually happy it didn’t seem to serve for any other purpose than to be yet another security camera. I don’t really look forward to a world where robots full of cameras follow people around (I know I am being naive, so don’t tell me).
